I just recently learned of this site from a friend that lives in Manassas. It's a very touching story and I think everything happens for reason. Back on September on 11th I lost a good friend in the Pentagon. We have had a few 5K walks in his memory and all who were lost that day. We called it "Run for Romeo". I have SEVERAL T-shirts from each invite. So in trying to think of a name for Mike's 5K. I thought of "Miles for Mike".

"Keeping Hope Alive 5k"
"The Strong Survive when Hope is Alive 5k"
"The Heart of a Champion 5k"
"Blessing in Disguise 5k"

Had a friend offer up "ONE 5K" or "ONE LOVE 5K"

...I must say though, "Survivor 5K" may speak to the masses - to ALL survivors. Not just brain injury survivors but cancer survivors, survivors of war, survivors of sexual attack or abuse, survivors of trauma - to ALL survivors. Maybe that's the one.

Or...

Had two people suggest "Running of the Bulls 5K"

And..."Hope is Alive 5K"

Keep 'em coming! We have until Wednesday.

I am a friend and fellow referee with Dave and have been visiting your web site for a few months now. You have done a wonderful job with it and it is very inspiring to follow Mike's progress. He is in my prayers daily as are his entire extended family. May I suggest a simple title for your 5k run based on your most recent entry to the web site. I would call it the "Survivor 5K"

It's Brady.

Posting from work, as you can see I'm hard at work. Ha ha ha. Yes, I actually wound up getting a decent job after ECPI :D

Hope the recovery is going well. You know that video games strengthen short term memory and hand-eye coordination right? So I expect you to play alot of Xbox!! Heh.

Not much new with me, just work, bills, and stuff. I live in Reston now, the Reston Town Center to be exact. It's pretty nice.

I read this blog quite a bit and came to visit you in the hospital with Mischa and Mike Z. But we had to leave after a while cuz the person next to you started emitting some crazy smell that made us all want to vomit our guts out. Sorry we bailed on you man, I suggested slinging you over Mike's shoulder and running for the hills to escape the smell, but I doubt the hospital would have liked that too much.

Well gotta go make myself useful, we should catch up sometime, keep up the good work!

Take care.

Hi Mike! I'm sure when Austin and Thomas see this they will be freaking out, but that's always the effect I have on them. I'm not sure that they know I have been keeping up with this site but Liz Belch is who sent me the site and I look at it several times a week.

"The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree" definitely describes my sons, as we all like to talk. After reading some of their messages, as a teacher I should have worked harder with their writing skills, but that's another story.
I don't know you well, but know that beneath the pile of blankets, occasionally, you have slept over and always awaken with a smile on your face. (At another time I will remind you of the time red "kool-aid" got spilled on the carpet in the basement and how diligently you worked to get it out----Austin and Thomas would have left it for "mom can do that".
I'm so pleased to read of all your progress and Thomas enjoyed last night at your house with you. But the real reason I am writing today is to offer to your mom help with the trips to DC. I thought maybe we could work out a schedule where if there were enough people, no one person, such as your mom, would have to do all the driving. Maybe your mom would like to call me or write, and I could offer the days I'm available to pick up.
For 10 days in March, I would be able to take as I will be out for Spring Break. You and your mom discuss this and get back to me when you can.
God bless you and it will be good again. mrs. g

Dear Mike,

We do not know each other personally; however, I hope that will change sometime in the near future. I have been following your blog silently for some time now and your recent post has inspired me to write to you.

I first heard of your accident through our mutual friend Dan McNelis, and have been intrigued by your story ever since. Your progress, strength and hope have been inspirational and you should feel blessed to have such an incredible and supportive family standing by your side. I shared your story with my parents, who are halfway across the globe in Bosnia and Herzegovina (you might have a new dot on your cluster map ☺).

I honestly hope to be able to visit you one day and wish you a steady and miraculous recovery. Keep up the incredible work and always remember that there are more possibilities in the universe than we could ever imagine.

Warmly,

Alan Alda's Scientific American Frontiers
Episode: Don't Forget

Alan Alda investigates how people create memories – and how as they age, memories become slippery and elusive, sometimes vanishing forever.

He visits two men who live entirely in the present or the distant past, unable to recall events that happened even a few minutes ago. Viewers peer inside Alda's own brain and find out what's at work as he memorizes names and faces. Alda discovers how ice water can boost memory (no, not drinking it) and how easy it is to have a false memory implanted.

He also meets a volunteer in an experimental treatment for Alzheimer's disease, gets the latest on the search for an Alzheimer's vaccine and joins a group of baby boomers who are learning how to keep their brains young and their memories intact.

Mike had a double helping of this delicious 4inch deep pasta dish and he'll have more of it tonight. A BIG thank you to Trish and an even BIGGER thank you to the rest of the McNelis family for sacrificing such a great meal and allowing that lasagna to get out the front door. It was delish Trish!

If this is your first time visiting this forum, read this first:

This forum is a place where people can engage in a discussion with each other. The comments on Mike's blog are nice, but forums add a higher level of user interaction, which may be appropriate moving forward. Whether or not we use this medium is entirely up to those who visit this site.

You will need to register for this site to gain full functionality. It only takes a few seconds. Click Here to Register
After giving a user name and email address, submit the form and check your email.

Login using the information provided in the email. Once logged in, click "View your profile" which is located at the top left of the website. Once at your profile, click "Edit" which can be found below Mike's picture to the top-right. You will see a place to type your new password near the bottom of the page. Change your password.

Now you are ready to jump in and participate in the discussion!

You will find it works much like the commenting system does on the blog.

Feel free to start your own topics.

In the coming weeks I will be adding the ability to log into Mike's blog with the same user name and password, for commenting purposes. You will have the same login information across both sites. This feature is Coming Soon.

I will also add more functionality to the forums in the coming weeks, please email me with any suggestions or questions.
